19-21 Un amour d’hôtel – Leucate, Aude

A modern, creative environment with a relaxed atmosphere.

This stylish new hotel in Leucate offers a very high standard of accommodation in a modern, creative yet relaxed atmosphere.

At the entrance to Leucate the hotel is well situated for bird watchers wanting to explore the Leucate Plateau – just minutes away on foot, where there are plenty of opportunities for early morning bird watching.

The Leucate plateau, a hotspot for spring migration

A short drive away, the southern edge of the Leucate plateau is a hotspot for spring migration, with a spectacular view looking south towards the Pyrenees. If the wind is a moderate to strong northwesterly, birds in their thousands are funnelled up the narrow lido between the coastal lagoon and the sea, allowing excellent views of StorksBee-eaters, Yellow wagtails, Swallows (incl. Red rumped), Swifts (incl. Alpine) and, in May, Honey buzzards galore flying over as they migrate north for the breeding season. April and May are particularly good for birding in Leucate, but there is year round birding interest in the area.

Great design, great food and great wine – as well as great birding!

Breakfast is a real treat, showcasing Katy’s culinary skills, with the cellar tasting room a much appreciated bonus for wine and dry-cured ham buffs!

The 20 rooms, vast terrace, shady courtyard, lap pool and sauna, make the 19-21 Un amour d’hôtel quite unique in the area and we are thrilled to host some of our trips here – including our Gourmet Spring Birding and Wine in the Mediterranean tour!

Just ask at reception for your own copy of the English guide to local birding : “Where to watch birds in the Narbonnaise regional park”. We can also arrange for private guiding if you want a day out with one of the local bird guides.

Check out the website: (English version coming soon!) or contact Katy and her team directly to make a booking on +33 (0)4 68 27 68 44 – mentioning of course that you heard about the hotel through Birding Languedoc!

A really lovely hotel with really lovely staff…

Philippa Benson
Like many Brits, I have a keen interest in natural history and will never tire of learning about the amazing birds and wildlife of the Languedoc. Resident in this lovely area for over 10 years, I now have a good working knowledge of where the best spots are for birds, flowers and other species and I enjoy sharing these with interested visitors. My background in project management and hospitality combined with being fully bilingual are useful skills for organising and hosting tours, and I have a particular focus on customer service!
