Greater flamingo - Birding Languedoc

Coastal lagoons & Corbières - Sunday 11th March 2018

We start with a visit to the salt-pans at La Palme to look for Greater flamingo, Slender-billed gull, Avocet Little and Great white egret, and possibly Squacco heron, Black-winged stilt and Kentish plover. After a coffee in La Franqui we'll have a walk around Les Coussoules where we might see Great spotted cuckoo, Sardininan and various other warblers. Then we'll either picnic down at the coast or on our way up into the Corbières hills where we will be looking out for Black kite on migration, Rock sparrow, Crag martin, Short-toed eagle, Golden eagle, Raven, Blue rock thrush, Chough and possibly passing Griffon vulture... and a very slim chance of Wallcreeper too!

Meeting time and place will be confirmed when you register.

Red-rumped swallow - Birding Languedoc

Spring migration & summer visitors Leucate - Saturday 5th May 2018

If the wind is NW migration offers some spectacular sights as birds fly up the "lido" between the lagoon and the sea - against a backdrop of the Pyrenees! Hirundines in the thousands (including Alpine Swift, Red-rumped Swallow) can be seen migrating north but also Bee-eater,  Yellow wagtail, and various raptors. Otherwise, the plateau is good for Great spotted cuckoo, Tawny pipit, Black-eared wheatear, Woodchat shrike, Spotless starling. Picnic lunch at La Franqui and then les Coussoules, also good for migration, to look for Great spotted cuckoo, Hoopoe, Sardinian warbler, Cetti's warbler, Kentish plover...

Ortolan bunting - Birding Languedoc

Raptors, warblers and buntings in the Corbières - Sunday 6th May 2018

On this trip we will explore the increasingly rare habitat of open dry pasture (bunch grass as in La Crau) around Feuilla and Fitou.
This habitat is home to Crested and Thekla lark, and in the shrubs we will be looking for Ortolan bunting, Orphean, Subalpine and Dartford warblers as well as Tawny pipit, Black-eared wheatear, Woodchat shrike, Woodlark and possibly Bee-eater and Roller moving through on migration. This is also raptor country, with resident Bonelli's and Golden eagle as well as summer visiting Short-toed eagle, with Hobby and Honey buzzard possible on migration too.

Meeting time and place will be confirmed when you register.

Birding is better in smaller groups, so we have decided to limit the number of places available on each trip!

Places are allocated on a "first come first served" basis, so please fill in the form to the right and we will confirm your place and where to meet on the day. Registering is essential and allows us to contact you should a trip be canceled for any reason.
If you are unable to attend, please make sure you let us know in advance so someone else can take your place
.

More trips may be added, so keep an eye on this page!

We are a non-profit organisation and ask for a small donation to help cover our costs and promote local wildlife and habitat conservation.
