La Souche, Saint Chinian – Hérault

La Souche is a perfect place to stay for birdwatchers, situated in a little hamlet just outside Saint Chinian. The best birding spots in the Hérault are all within an hour’s drive. From the terrace of la Souche you can see Sardinian Warblers, Short-toed eagles and Montagu’s harrier.
La Souche is run by a charming Dutch couple, Marianne and Hennie, who are focussed on the details that ensure you have a pleasant stay. Their B&B is well-known for its great ambiance, food & wine. We choose this B&B for our tour Gourmet Spring Birding in the Herault.

I grew up in the Netherlands and have been birdwatching for 30 years. And since moving to Cessenon sur Orb, in the Languedoc, in 2011, I have rediscovered my passion for birds and wildlife in general. I had never really heard of birding in France apart from the Camargue, but in the Languedoc I now realise that we have the same species and they are much more accessible to the public. Every time I see a group of 20 Black kite migrating, which is normal over here, I still love it. Favorite birds: raptors.
